Unit 2:
Assignment 4 – Task 1
Personal
branding
We
understand the importance of a well thought out, cohesive and recognizable
branding for businesses, and why would this be any different for people.
Personal branding could be anything from a logo or colour scheme, much like
Oprah uses as displayed below, to Googling your name and having various websites with your work or
social media channels. Ultimately, personal branding makes you stand out, makes
your recognizable in an instant and showcases your talents and skills. If
someone was choosing between two specialists, and one came up with an easy
Google search with related pages and examples of their work, and the other came
up with nothing, it would be an easy decision for the client as to who to
choose.
Different
social media platforms have their different purposes, if you are a
professional, a focus on LinkedIn and Twitter may be the most valuable to you.
As LinkedIn is a professional platform, and Twitter has small communities and
makes it easy to connect with individuals similar to you. Whereas, if you want
to focus on fashion, a more visual platform such as Instagram may be more
useful. You have to think of who your target audience is and what platform they
are most likely to be on. Then, create your brand on those platforms, a logo,
what content you will put out, and connect with other people similar to you.
Include some kind of design, a summary and a clear call to action in your
account.
A good
example of someone who uses social media for personal branding is Grace
Beverly, who uses different platforms in different ways to create what sells
her products, her brand. When Googling Grace Beverly, a variety of options come
up, including a BBC article, a Forbes 30 under 30 article, and her Instagram
and LinkedIn. On LinkedIn, she uses a professional picture and has a clear bio as displayed below,
as Founder and CEO of TALA and Shreddy. On Instagram, a similar bio is found, displayed below, being a founder and CEO of her two companies, as well as a call to action to
pre order her book. Her picture is also the same on both platforms, making her
instantly recognizable if you were going between them.
